Our client, the Municipality of Sayabec, is looking for a Public Works Director to join its team. Located in the heart of nature in the Matapédia RCM, the municipality has a population of over 1,700. It is renowned for its quality of life, its forests, its access to the magnificent Matapedia Lake and its dynamism.
Your role:
Reporting to the General Manager, you will ensure the smooth operation of all mechanical and electrical units making up the drinking water supply and wastewater disposal system throughout the municipality. In the course of your duties, you will also assume responsibility for the following activities:
● Plan, organize, direct and control all operational activities of the Public Works Department (maintenance and operation of water and sewer systems, David-Pelletier sports center, signage and lighting, road network, building maintenance, green spaces, snow removal operations, machinery and tools);
● Prepare the department's budget and business plan in collaboration with the General Manager, and participate in the preparation of estimates and specifications for bids on various contracts;
● Support general management in the search for financial aid programs and write grant applications for the department's various projects, and ensure follow-up and accountability;
● Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety rules and standards throughout the various activities of its department;
● Manage municipal equipment (e.g. rolling stock and other equipment);
● Manage the department's personnel (up to 7 employees), ensuring the application of policies and practices relating to sound human resources management and labor relations;
● Prepare reports and estimates for the city council and general management (e.g. status report, opportunities, etc.);
● Act as project manager for infrastructure work (carry out the necessary follow-ups and ensure supervision of work in progress);
● Provide advice, recommendations and guidance in relation to its area of expertise with the aim of improving service quality;
● Carry out any other tasks requested by General Management.
Your profile:
● College diploma, or university undergraduate degree, in civil engineering or related discipline;
● A minimum of five (5) years' experience in a similar role;
● Good knowledge of drinking water and wastewater treatment;
● Possess a valid driver's license (class 5);
● Ability to use new technologies and MS Office suite;
● Knowledge of the municipal sector (asset);
● Experience in personnel management in a unionized environment (asset);
● Ability to plan, organize, manage priorities and costs;
● Communication and problem-solving skills;
● Demonstrate leadership, judgment and thoroughness;
● Be service-oriented and possess a strategic vision.
WHAT WE OFFER:
● A permanent management position with an April 2025 start date;

● Annual salary starting at $80,000 (depending on experience).
